Completing surveys online is a useful way of making money from the comfort of your own home.
Unlike some of the ads you will have no doubt seen on the internet it is unlikely you will make enough from completing paid surveys to be able to give up your main job however the money generated can be a useful way of supplementing your current income.
An average paid survey might pay you around £4 ($8) for taking the time to spend 10 minutes answering questions on a topic. Some survey companies will pay more than others and to an extent how much they are willing to pay you will depend on how much they are being paid to conduct the survey.
There are a large number of free to join survey sites who pay you money and I would not recommend any of the sites that require you to pay a 'membership' or 'joining fee' as after all the idea is for you to make money not for you to pay out money. If you are interested in joining a free paid survey site then you can join either a UK paid survey site, a USA paid survey site or an International paid survey site.
Whilst survey sites might ask some personal questions when you first sign up such name, address, occupation, hobbies etc. they use this information to identify relavant members to survey on topics. For example, if they are trying to find out views on a certain type of baby food there is no point in them asking someone who does not have children, similarly if the paid survey is on cars there is no point in asking someone who cannot drive.
A question often asked is why do survey sites pay you for answering their question well the simple answer is that you are giving up your time for them and it only seems fair that they should compensate you in someway for this and so they pay you for your time normally in cash via Paypal or direct to your bank account. Some survey sites instead of cash offer vouchers and entry into sweepstakes and it is up to you which ones you join but I always prefer the cash ones and the vouchers ones if they are vouchers that I will use such as Amazon which are more or less cash. I tend to avoid the survey sites who only reward me by entering me into a sweepstake sure I could win a major prize but normally I will end up giving up my time for nothing.

Survey websites use the answers you provide to aid companies with market research. If say a deodarant manufacturer is launching a new deodarant they will want to know how much people are prepared to pay, what smells they like and dislike, what type of packaging is attractive and which is off putting etc. This company will then go to a Survey site and ask them to do some market research for them. The survey site will then prepare a survey covering all the major issues that the manufacturer is interested in and inform its members that there is a survey available and how much they will be paid for completing the survey. This where you would come in. By participating in online surveys not only are you being rewarded for your time by being paid you are also helping to shape future products and services by telling people your thoughts and opinions.
